When the contents of our CUP yields a Bitter taste, many Christians will immediately say, Why Me? However, think about it from this perspective. We know that bitter herbs are what God used to season His sacrifices. In the book of Exodus 12, God tells Moses to speak to the children of Israel and communicate that they are to consume the portions of the sacrifice with bitter herbs. This specificity is indicative of how God wants His children to come before Him.
Bitter herbs enhance flavor as opposed to altering the flavor. It is imperative that as Christians, that we note the relevance of Paul’s letter to the Romans. I beseech ye therefore by the mercies of God, that you present yourselves, a living sacrifice, Holy and acceptable unto God which is your reasonable service. (this means we are the sacrifice now, the church, that has been washed in the blood of the Lamb of God.) Continuing, Paul says, and be ye not conformed to this world, but be ye transformed by the renewing of your minds (meaning now that we are new creatures in Christ, what would have bothered us in the flesh, no longer impacts us, because our minds are renewed in the Holy Spirit of Almighty God!) We do not hate, we love. We do not judge, we execute gentleness. We do not sorrow, we are joyful. We do not live in despair, we walk by faith. We do not live in rage, we stand in peace. We do good, are meek in our actions, and execute temperance in our affairs. This is the offering we bring to God every day we live as witnesses for him, this behavior comes from our hearts, and God considers it a sweet smelling savor unto Him. Collect stones as you battle with the world’s evils daily as Christians.. As the pandemic is seen by the world as controllable by man, Christians see this as a plague of judgment only controlled by God Almighty!
As the world complains about social distancing and wearing masks, Christians see that many have gone astray and left God our Creator, thus social distancing themselves from the Lord our God! As the world sees wearing masks as an inconvenience, Christians see that perhaps God has been wearing a mask because of the hate and fowl behaviors coming from the stony hearts in this world. Once we collect our stones, we can embrace the bitter herbs in our CUP, noting that God is reminding us that we are His chosen and we must renew our minds in Christ Jesus to offer ourselves as the appropriate living sacrifice unto Him. Why Me? Because Christ Chose You. BITTER C.U.P. Consumed Under Pressure
